WHAT IS FASCIA

Fascia is a tough connective tissue which spreads throughout the body in a three-dimensional web from head to foot without interruption. Trauma, posture or inflammation can create a binding down of fascia resulting in excessive pressure on the nerves, muscles, blood vessels, osseous structures and/or organs. Since many of the standard tests such as x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc. do not show the fascial restrictions, it is thought that an extremely high percentage of people suffering with pain and/or lack of motion may be having fascial problems, but most go undiagnosed.

WHAT IS MYOFASCIAL RELEASE

Myofascial release (MFR) is an alternative medicine therapy useful for treating skeletal muscle immobility and pain by relaxing contracted muscles, improving blood and lymphatic circulation, and stimulating the stretch reflex in muscles. Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.).

The medical approach is to drug patients so they temporarily are free from pain, but does nothing about the “straight-jacket” of pressure that is causing the pain. Traditional physical, occupational and massage therapy treats the symptoms caused by the pressure of the “straightjacket” of the Myofascial system, but does nothing about the “straightjacket” of pressure that causes and perpetuates the symptoms.

This is why so many patients only have temporary results never seeming to get better with traditional therapy. Only Myofascial Release treats the entire Myofascial mind/body complex eliminating the pressure of the restricted Myofascial system (the straightjacket) that causes the symptoms. ~John Barnes~

WHAT IS CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY

Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle hands-on technique that uses a light touch to examine membranes and movement of the fluids in and around the central nervous system. Relieving tension in the central nervous system promotes a feeling of well-being by eliminating pain and boosting health and immunity.

Research shows that MFR and CS sessions before a neurofeedback session help to release toxins throughout the body and calm the Central Nervous System. By incorporating the two together, this benefits those patient’s who struggle with anxiety, ADD/ADHD or who cannot sit for a period of time.

Our therapists were trained through John Barnes for myofascial release and craniosacral therapy. Please let us know if you would like MFR or CST to be scheduled before a neurofeedback session. Bioregulation therapy (BRT) can be done in conjunction with myofascial or craniosacral therapy. We are currently only treating ages 5 to 15 years for MFR and all ages for CST with neurofeedback or bioregulation therapy.
